Vulcan Spirit safely arrived after good trip. Last part spent struggling to make a tidal gate in light winds while jostling for position through the narrow reef pass with a large commercial vessel. Exciting trying to work out vectors to see who had precedence (we were under sail and in front, but he was much faster and could claim to be restricted by size once in the entrance, but as overtaking vessel he had to give us clearance. We got in first after friendly conversation on the radio to establish common understanding of the situation. Honour satisfied all round.
Now anchored in the lee of small uninhabited island flying our Q flag (yellow) to indicate that we haven't cleared Customs and so cannot land. Noumea tomorrow.
Southern end of New Caledonia amazingly similar to the Inner Hebrides and Clyde estuary in Scotland. For once I can see why Cook (again) named a place.
