Barbuda is the sister island of Antigua; part of the same country, half the size of Antigua but only 1500 inhabitants. It has two claims to fame - its truly magnificent beaches of which more below, and its frigate bird colony of which more in a later post.
The picture below is on the west coast and shows a small section of an 11 mile white sand beach. There are no habitations of any sort apart from one swish resort with 9 rooms. Unlike most of the rest of the Caribbean this island is coral raised from the sea bed in some ancient earthquake, rather than being volcanic. Its average elevation is 4m, with the highest point reaching 40m
We are anchored off it in 5m of turquoise water.
