We got our 'Despacho' (permission to leave) yesterday at 1100hrs - another pointless visit by a team of friendly officials. They have no cruising tradition here and in common with much of Latin America boats are expected to clear in and out of every port, a quite mind-numbing level of bureaucracy. However, we're going straight to Bermuda so it's not too onerous - and done very nicely.
At present we are at anchor off Isla Saona, a national park at the south-eastern extremity of Hispaniola, waiting for the afternoon wind to take us north up the channel between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
About 875 nautical miles to go (1nm = a convenient 1852metres).
