We were at New England Boatworks for three weeks,
working non-stop. We did a lot, but there still seems to be an endless list of
jobs waiting to be tackled.
Here I am with friend Kevin (who actually knows
what he's doing) being taught how to reassemble our anchor winch which we had
dismounted and stripped. We're using a friend's boat to shelter from the sun.
Shortly before this photo the winch had exploded while being dismantled - a
large powerful spring had become stuck under pressure until we got at it. I was
struck hard on the forehead by a large heavy lump of flying winch - luckily my
eyebrow took the brunt of it.
And here are Ali & I a few days later applying
our new antifoul - in glorious white. This is a semi-hard paint which means that
we can scrub it vigorously to remove growth; we chose white to help prod us into
doing so more regularly because we reckon that every attached plant and
animal will be visible - and it looks nice, we think.
And here is the finished product - Vulcan Spirit in
her new colour, in the crane ready for launching on Sept 7, somewhat later than
planned due to Hurricane Katia. Note that it's raining again.
