Hi
It was a sad day today as Hannah and Tom have left us.
Tom has been with us since leaving the Canaries 77 days ago. He has been fun to have on board; no job was ever too much trouble and he always made things fun.He often slaved away in the galley making something creative without being asked (unlike his father who has been known to go up the mast rather than cook).
He must be one of a very few people who has learnt to navigate using a sextant across the Atlantic before becoming a qualified Day Skipper.
He has let it be known though that if we are looking for crew to bring the boat back he's not interested.
We put him on an early plane this morning bound for university in Cuba via San Juan, Miami and Cancun. In four weeks time he hopes to be fluent in Spanish!!!
Hannah flew back to St Lucia and then flies back to the UK tomorrow. She did extremely well, sailing 225 miles from St Lucia to Antigua via Dominica and Guadeloupe in sometimes quite rough conditions. She witnessed one of the worst squalls we have experienced to date on route to Marie Galante.
At least she will have some fond memories to look back on when she is working nights next week in the bowel unit in snowy Edinburgh.
We now have two whole days together on our own (the first since mid-November). They will be spent cleaning, doing the laundry and food shopping before our next guests arrive at the weekend.
Oh the joys of being on the ocean wave.
