Bus USA

New England has a surprisingly good public bus
service. In both Rhode Island and Massachusetts there is a flat $2 fare with
even cheaper day and week tickets available. The buses are clean frequent
and swift - and if the temperature rises above 90F, free! Astonishingly, the USA
not being noted for its green credentials, this is regarded as an ozone
emergency. I cannot even begin to contemplate the UK authorities being so
forward thinking.
And they happily transport your bicycle, for free.
A bike rack is on the front of every bike, with a very clever quick attachment
& release system. Here is Alison with our bikes loaded on this morning in
preparation for a ride on the Cape Cod Rail Trail. The only problem is that it's
two bikes max per bus, and this bus is only hourly. But we were lucky both
times, out and back. Again, why can't we do this in the UK?
