We left Panama yesterday and are now over a hundred
miles into the 1000nm trip to the Galapagos.
The Pacific, here and at present at least, is
living up to its name. Utterly different to the Atlantic. No waves, just a long
low swell, and a light wind. Very pleasant. And no flying fish. But lots of
dolphins, and at night they are just spectacular. The sea here is full of
phosphorescence - planktonic animals and plants that produces an eery faint
green light when disturbed. The boat creams along in a pale green glow, and the
dolphins racing beside us are a bit like the Red Arrows - their bodies are lit
up, and they leave a long trail like a jet, glowing in the water. In fact it's
easier to see their underwater acrobatics at night than in the daytime.
Superb.
No photos until we arrive - they cost to much time
on the satphone.
