Hobart Town was established in 1803 as an offshoot from the NSW colony. It contains some fine C19 buildings like this ship chandler’s house with a splendid view out to sea:

 

 

And lots of these pretty little cottages:

 

 

And some grander buildings:

 

 

But its beautiful old buildings are substantially outnumbered by dreadful modern tat, cheek by jowl. Overall it is not a lovely place; Tasmania is relatively poor by Australian standards, and it shows.
