Somewhat surprisingly I have received criticism for not updating the Blog enough recently. Justified, but surprising!
So here goes.
Sint Maarten is a strange place in many ways. Not only is there is a 7 screen cinema with an escalator, but even more unusually there is a fully functioning fairground carousel on which one can ride for $2. It is located in its own wing of a purpose built icecream parlour and is complete with dinghy dock. The place is owned by an Italian family who make their icecream on the premises. My favourite at present is grapefruit and fresh mint sorbet, often with real coconut as a second scoop. The carousel is a real antique, imported from Italy by the family. It is very popular with the kids there being nothing like it for about 1500 miles in any direction. We managed to sneak a ride when there was no-one else about, thus preserving our dignity.
Here it is, with Alison who chose the biggest horse thus relegating me to a miniature pony. I must have looked even more ridiculous but luckily there was no-one to take a photo.
