We are now in the Mona Passage, a 75 mile wide gap
between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. Weather is unpleasant - drizzle,
big waves, not enough wind and some lightening storms (getting hit by lightening
at sea is not a nice experience, and unfortunately not uncommon). We keep our
spare radio in the oven during storms so that even if the rest of the electrics
get fried the spare will be OK - because as you will all doubtless recall from
your school physics lessons, Faraday showed that the charge rests on the outside
of a charged conductor - so anything inside a metal box is protected from
lightening.
Arrival in the Dominican Republic now delayed
due to lack of wind - we hope to be in a day later than planned, around
lunchtime on Tuesday.
