VS is now moored in the marina at Simonstown. This was the base of the Royal Navy's South Atlantic Squadron until 1957 when it was handed back to SA, so there are a lot of interesting period buildings and quite an English feel, reminiscent of South Devon.
Here is the marina (VS's mast just visible in the extreme right) looking out to the naval harbour. Quite why SA needs this big navy is not clear to me when a lot of the population have no water nor electricity. VS is quite close to the big ships, where life onboard seems to be governed by a never ending series of whistles on the bosuns' calls.
