We arrived in the Chesapeake Bay (300km long, an average of less than 30km wide but an average depth of less than 7m so we have to be very careful where we try to sail) on 01 October after a very rough passage up the Delaware River estuary and then through the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal into Maryland, anchoring for the night at one of the spots surveyed by Capt John Smith in 1608 - Smith was the first person to thoroughly explore and map the Chesapeake as a precursor to settlement.
Here is an accurate replica of his 'shallop', a now extinct shallow draft sailing & rowing boat. It must have been a real adventure.

Next stop Annapolis, capital of Maryland and home of the US Naval Academy
