Eowyn
Mon 14 Apr 2014 19:16
Éowyn is moored in Prince Rupert
Bay, Dominica.
Some time since our last update! The
rig check was completed in Falmouth Harbour and a severe crack was spotted in
one turnbuckle. Apart from that, the problems were minor. The leaking rudder
seals reasonably under control and hopefully will remain so until we haul in
Grenada.
Another great meal in Rum Baba,
Falmouth Harbour where were joined by Shaun and Neil from "Escapade" The next
day, Friday, we set sail for Guadeloupe with some North in the wind and enjoyed
our fastest ever passage in these waters - so fast in fact the we passed
Deshais, our intended destination and continued to the South of Guadeloupe to
the Marina Riviere Sens. There has been some much needed restoration of the
pontoons and we could use it as a base to visit BasseTerre the capital of
Guadeloupe. Quite a bustling place with slightly less of the tattiness of
Point-a-Pitre, we passed a pleasant day at the market before strolling along the
2 mile boulevard back to the marina.
Mike and Val Birch were due to join
us Monday evening so on the Sunday we motorsailed to the Saintes to enjoy yet
another pleasant but short visit. Monday saw us in Point-a-Pitre when a tired
Mike and Val arrived from their Paris flight. On Tuesday we used the dinghy to
explore the town and visit the aquarium before setting sail the next day for the

After our tour on Sunday evening we
enjoyed the PAYS barbeque organised by the boat boys to supprt their security
patrols. At $50EC for as much food and rum punch as you can consume, it's a
bargain too - and all in a good cause!
