The Bequia
bug hit us in 2 ways - firstly it's always great to be back to a place where
yachts are so welcome and facilities both social and technical are so
good.
After a few days at Prickly Bay
last week, we said goodbye to friends and headed North to Carriacou. Shortly
after launching, we had discovered that the regulator to one of the alternators
had failed, but Eowyn is equipped on a redundancy principle so we were able to
switch over to the spare straight away. We hope to get it replaced at Regis
Electronics in St Lucia. The watermaker also failed but the shaft key was
FedEx'd to Bequia by the excellent Michael Bauza of Echotec in Trinidad so
little time was lost.
Mike Birch and I were putting the
finishing touches to the equipment for Éowyn's circumnavigation and Mike quite
quickly worked out and ideal placement for another solar panel and this was duly
purchased and fitted. We are now effectively independent of the engine for power
generation with the 2 panels and the Duogen.
New Solar Panel
Arrives!!
Other chores have included a
thorough examination of the medical kit and other equipment.
The other Bequia bug hit Chris a
couple of days ago with a swollen and very painful left leg. Twelve months ago,
Jacqui was admitted firstly to the Bequia hospital and then to the o0ne in St
Vincent. So far Chris has only been to the Bequia branch!! Hopefully the
cocktail of drugs will do the trick. I think for her the worst part was to miss
2 excellent dives with Bequia Dive Adventures!
tomorrow, Monday, we set sail;
first for Petit Byahaut on St Vincent than to Marigot Bay St Lucia. Val &
Mike will fly home next Friday
