After leaving
English Horbour we sailed to Nonsuch Bay where we spent 3 days including one
night in the idyllic Ricketts Bay on Green Island and 2 nights off Harmony Hall.
As we had guests onboard who had not visited Antigua before, we all went off to
Shirley Heights on Sunday to experience the steel bands, reggae and barbeque.
Here we met with the crew of "Kelly's Eye" with whom we had any SSB
conversations in 2004 but had not yet met. We had already renewed our
acquaintance with the crew of "Ciao" who seem to be destined to settle in
Antigua at least for the short term as 18 month old Rosie has signed on for
pre school.
Returning to
Falmouth, our dinghy sprung a serious leak so decided to stay onboard and
attempt a repair. The next day a cracking downwind sail in NE7 took us to Deep
Bay where we snorkelled the wreck of the "Andes", a Barque which went doen in
flames in 1906 but which lies in only 7 metres of water.
We now lie in
Jolly Harbour and have said our goodbyes to the crew who all left today for the
UK. We have repaired the Duogen and after diving to recover the skipper's specs,
normality has resumed!!
For me it was
great to have tracked down both Darren Thompson and Lizzy Jordan, friends from
times past, now both permanently ensconced in Antigua. The next few days will
bring further repairs and another attempt to glue the tinker tramp and our own
departure next Wednesday to Gatwick and thence on to Tenerife to visit
Mum.
