Bali to Cocos Keeling
Eowyn
Wed 15 Sep 2010 09:13
Éowyn is underway to
Cocos Keeling in position 10:24.299S
110:27.724E
Our first sailing in the
Indian Ocean has seen very light winds. We have mainly managed to avoid the
engine, using the asymmetric spinnaker in the day and main/genoa at
night.
The fleet is not as spread out
as usual and we are in VHF contact with several yachts. We have some new Net
Controllers on the SSB, A Lady, Lady Eve and Chessie. This should add some
freshness to the daily reporting. The Net is a valued security and contact
routine conducted at 0900 each day. we learn the positions of the fleet and have
a chance to chat to some of the most distant yachts.
The routine continues as usual
sometimes punctuated by encounters with Javan fishing boats. On the first night
Emilio thought he was being threatened by one but it was probably just
protecting its nets. Mike is in the galley today - we have a beef casserole and
I have made some bread pudding for dessert. we are introducing Andrei to some
British favourites. A few days ago, he tried Haggis for the first
time!
We hope to get to Cocos, a
remote outpost of Australia, on the 21st September and will spend 5 days there
before a long sail to Mautitius.
