We have been in the San Blas
Islands for 3 days so far, a world so far removed from our civilisation, it is
difficult to describe. The Kuna Indians live in their jealously guarded
traditional way, cannot marry outwith their race and are content with their
simple lives as coconut gatherers and fishermen.
The small photos below give a
clue as to their lives. I will post more when we get to a fast internet
connection.

Island Tomorrow, 16th, we sail to
Chichime for a world SRC rendezvous, although last night we found ourselves with
half the fleet in the East Hollandes anchorage, an idyllic tropical paradise
with perfect shelter from the windward coral reef

Our Canal transit arrangements
have changed to our advantage and we will be able to spend a few extra days in
the San Blas Islands before we arrive in Shelter Bay Marina on 23 January. The
canal transit is on the 27/28th and in the meantime, I need to find a sailmaker
to reinforce the twistle yankees, a chart agent to replace our faulty C-map
charts, and to repair the intermittent fault on the radar. We are hopeful that
we may have found the problem with the engine fuel supply but it will be some
days before we can be sure of that.
