The last 24 hours of our
escort duty were amongst the worst. The current had turned against us and the
swell was high! We just wanted to get in! There was not much sleeping on the
disabled Basia or any of the escorts.

Finally things began to turn
in our favour and at 0930 on the 25th March, Mike & I crossed our outward
track and completed our circumnavigation! We gave ourselves 3
cheers!
We Did It!
Next we had to prepare for the
arrival, but there was a big surprise in store. A flotilla of dinghies filled
with our friends of the last 15 months came rushing out to greet us as we
crossed the line. Of course the biggest welcome was reserved for Basia but
Tucanon & Jeannius were treated to the same noisy reception.
Great Reception
We had been given an easy
berth to dock to and all went smoothly with an even bigger reception on the
dock. Port Louis was under construction when we left in December 2009 but now we
were treated to the fanciest marina around with 5 star facilities
abounding. Prices match but we had been given a generous 50% discount so we
could afford a few days relaxing here.
Here are links to some YouTube
footage of us and Basia
The relaxing was optimistic as
we had a tour booked for the 27th and the 2 days before, our exhaustion caught
up with us. However one by one, the work was done and we had a great bus tour of
the Island compliments of the tourist office. After the tour the prizegiving
ceremony focussed on the rescue and plight of Basia but Rui on Thor VI was
declared overall winner of the leg with a great performance.
Yesterday Mike & I
continued making and mending with help from Bob who was taking care of Kathy so
her visit was not all boat maintenance! Walking 100 yards with Kathy takes for
ever as she seems to know just about everyone on the Island and particularly at
the marina.
Today we motor to Prickly Bay
whilst Mike Takes some time off to dive with
Scubatech.
