On Saturday, we set off before
0700 by foot to the Carnival in Recife. After an adventurous walk when we got
soaked by rain and had to walk the wrong way up a motorway, we got a good
spot at the start of the parade. This Carnival mainly comprises of dozens of
similar floats with loud bands and lots of dancing in the street. The photos
below give only a little idea of the vast throng.
The next day at Olinda, we had
a base in a premises along the route. This also had a very loud band with
food & drink provided. The Olinda Carnival is somewhat different with
lots of small parades of local groups and family parties. There were no large
floats there, just thousands of people dressed in multi colour outfits, dancing
and enjoying themselves.
