We remained in the Saintes
for most of last week as the forecast was for quite strong winds and heavy seas.
We enjoyed pleasant company with the crews of" Moonsong", "Blue Heron" and
"Neroli". Although the Saintes is a very pleasant place to be marooned, Island
fever does set in in such a small place and it was encouraging to hear that
there was a break in the weather. We listen to the Ham Radio broadcast of Erik
Mackie from Trinidad on most mornings. This is broadcast on 3,855.00 LSB on the
SSB short wave radio at 0630 local time. There seemed to be a break in the
weather on Friday to Sunday, so we set off northwards to Deshais in the NW
corner of Guadeloupe. Deshais was hit hard last year by Hurricane Omar and the
jetty and many of the shoreside properties are damaged.
On Saturday, we set off at
dawn for Jolly Harbour Antigua. I was expecting very light winds with heavy
seas, but conditions were ideal with ESE force 5 so we altered course for
Falmouth Harbour and averaged almost 7 knots in ideal conditions.
After clearing in we met
John & Chris from "Oriole" and arranged a supper with them and Charlie &
Francoise from "Neroli "at "Trappas" Trappas revolutionised dining at
Falmouth/English dining some 7 years ago with competent fun food at modest
prices. The ingredients are still there but the cost is now somewhat
higher!!!
On Monday we move to Jolly
Harbour to prepare for our haulout.
Sorry about the lack of
photos but we have some internet problems
