Éowyn is now in Bora Bora, Society Islands in position 16:29.460S 151:45.622W

We left Moorea on 5th May in the late afternoon. We planned to arrive in Huahine at about 0800 the next day and Kalliope, Thor VI, Ocean Jasper and Lady Lisa had similar plans as we were all within 5 miles as night fell. The sea was a bit lumpy but about 9 pm there was enough wind for a 6 knot broad reach. It was great to be sailing again when the forecast had been for no wind! In the morning we anchored off Faare and ashore we found easily the best supermarket so far in French Polynesia, complete with NZ apples and sushi ginger! After a lazy lunch with Rui, Anna & Eduardo from Thor VI we went back to Eowyn to catch up on a couple of minor repair jobs.

The next day we explored the West coast of Huahine, including Port Bourayne reminiscent of a remote Scottish sea loch. We anchored for the night behind a coral reef at Pointe Tiva in the South.

Next stop was Raiatea where Graham, Mike & Chris dived the outer reef with hundreds of black tipped sharks, the next day, G & C were diving again, firstly in the pass and then the wreck of the Nordby, a 3 masted ship which sunk in 1900. A first for us both as we saw an elusive leaf fish.

Tahaa is a separate island within the same fringing reef as Raiatea and as we motored north we  saw a catamaran heavily aground in the pass, an indication of how close we are to the knife's edge!

The owners were trying to free it, but the next morning when we went through the pass to Bora Bora it was still stuck fast. No wind again! I hope the next leg has some - Mike & I are looking forward to a good sail.

Next stop Bora Bora where we took a taxi tour to see the island. Reputedly the most beautifully island in the world - shame about the litter and mess!

Chris, Mike & Graham took 2 more scuba dives. This time we saw very large lemon sharks as well as the usual grey and black tip sharks.

Our base here is the Bora Bora yacht club which is recovering from a devastating cyclone in February. On Saturday Chris & Val fly home via San Francisco and Graham & Mike prepare for the next racing leg of 680 miles to Suwarrow.
