Cocos Keeling to Mauritius in position

Since Tuesday, the seas have
been light to moderate and we have been able to make good progress towards
Mauritius.
Several of the other yachts
have had sail problems in the large swells behind us. Voyageur took a very large
wave and broke their spinnaker pole; Tzigane got into a pickle with their
cruising chute and it ended up in the water with the sheets wrapped around the
prop. John had to enter the water to cut it loose (brave man!) and it took them
a further 2 hours to haul in the sail as the weight of water was so heavy. A
Lady had a spinnaker wrap which took some time to clear. Destiny wrapped their
spinnaker yesterday and it is still around the forestay, all attempts to cut it
free having failed! Poor Wolfgang is up the mast today to try
again.
All of the above have made us
reluctant to hoist our spinny until the seas are totally flat. We are wimps, I
know, but at least our sail is still intact.
Fresh food has virtually run
out so we are all having to be inventive with cans and packets.
Morale is good and we are all
looking forward to Mauritius. We should get there Sunday and if the gods are
with us, just before nightfall. We are already planning our visits to the
waterfront restaurants and we may check into an hotel for a couple of days
whilst we get rid of the mini ants which are sailing with us on this
leg.
