What a Difference a Day Makes
Eowyn

Éowyn is back on the docking
Jolly Harbour, Antigua
Whilst were peacefully anchored at
Great Bird Island,we were disturbed by the automatic bilge pump firing in to
life. Now you have to remember that Eowyn is a very dry boat and any water in
the bilge usually signifies a problem. After investigation I discovered a
dripping of water from the upper rudder seal. This should be below the waterline
but we are very overweight with all our cruising equipment so it may be just
below. Some internet research revealed that this is common with yachts of
Eowyn's mileage.
The seals are easily available and
cheap but it is a fairly major exercise to replace them. Had we been remaining
onboard it would not be a problem as we simply pump the bilge every 2 days, but
to leave the boat afloat for 4 weeks may not be wise. We therefore hastily
booked a haulout and tomorrow at 0730, Eowyn will leave her natural environment
to go on the hard. I will leave replacement ofthe seals until we haul in Grenada
at the end of the season.
