Guadeloupe, Saintes
Eowyn

Sunday saw us at Shirley Heights again with a
bus load of cruising friends including Gord, Heather, Tommy & Elizabeth from
Canadian Yacht "Tembo". Monday saw a visit to Rickets Bay on Green Island and
then into Nonsuch Bay and Harmony Hall.
Returning to English Harbour on Tuesday evening,
we cleared out on Wednesday for our Thursday sail to Guadelpoupe. The winds were
generally SSE Force 6 occasionally 7, not the E to SE force 3/4 which was
forecast generally. Chris was trying the new electronic motion sickness band and
whilst it improved things substantially, she was still queasy for much of the
passage. Arriving at Deshais, we encountered a new phenomenon- the anchor fell
off. We had been using a stainless steel swivel since Eowyn was delivered
and this had parted. We had previously been warned that these can fail!! After
ending on the CQR, I donned scuba gear, recovered the Delta and determined never
to use a swivel again.
Friday saw better winds and a sail to
Point-a-Pitre where Jacqui was to leave us. We dined at the Fregate
restaurant. I will simply say that if you want a first rate French
Restaurant, forget Guadeloupe and try the Gallery at English
Harbour.
