Half Way There
Eowyn
Tue 16 Mar 2010 17:30
Éowyn is still under way to
Marquesas in position 06:25.100S 114:31.470W on Tuesday 16th March. About
10 days to Hiva Oa and we are half distance with 1460 miles to go.
We now are on our own as the group of
yachts near us are out of radio range. Of course we speak to the others at th
eSSB roll call at midday.
We spent much of 2 days sorting out the
engine cooling system, back flushing to drive out the broken bits of impellor.
All is nearly back to normal and we were able to top up the water tanks
yesterday and make bread today. Both jobs require the engine to run to give
alternator power.
We are still averaging just under 7 knots
over the ground but we are expecting an adverse current and slower conditions
soon.
We are all a little bit fatigued but the
crews with only 2 such as Jeannius, Dreamcatcher and Voyageur have a much harder
time of it as they can never get a long sleep period. Our watch system allows 3
hours on and then 6 off.
Our one remaining vegetable is cabbage!!!
John came up with an excellent alternative way of preparing it, using apple,
limes and onion to produce a rather tasty sweet and sour
concoction.
Tonight I will cook a red cabbage Flemish
style which we will eat with haggis and jacket potato. Don't we lead an exciting
life |
