Éowyn is now ashore in Grenada Marine, St Davids in position  12:01.384N 61:40.730W

Eowyn may be in Grenada but we are in Barbados, staying at the delightful 'Little Arches' Hotel

The lay-up work went pretty well with only a few notable incidents. It was hot and sweaty but not complicated.

With the rain of the previous few weeks we were concerned to get the sails down and folded dry. This we did without any problem and we enjoyed our few days at Le Phare Bleu so much we stayed to last Monday morning, the 9th. The shoreside restaurant has a new chef and we did rather treat ourselves several times including a very reasonably priced lobster thermador!

Dave Royce fitted a new furling line and replaced many buttons in our upholstery - Dave is also quoting for a new bimini and curtains and repairing our carpet and sprayhood.

We motored round to St David's and arranged the final detail of our haul out and for our leaking deck cleats to be re-bedded. All went very well until it was time to put on the lay-up cover - at the last we discovered where our massive colony of sugar ants were living - in the cover - there were millions but we managed to clean the whole thing only to find as different species of ant the next day!!     Grrrrr

A trawl though the internet produced a recipe to kill the queen using sugar syrup and boric acid. We had to wait patiently whilst the worker ants took the mix to the nest but after a few hours - no ants -let's hope it stays like that.

Since our haul on the 10th we stayed at La Sagesse where we were a little surprised to meet Basia and Michael Neumann, still collecting the estimates for their insurance claim. They had already been there 6 weeks before we arrived. They were great company and are philosophical about their major accident, pleased that there were no major injuries and accepting the situation with the yacht. They are boxing up their personal possessions to return them to Canada.

Eventually our lay-up was complete though not until Saturday morning when we were due to fly to Barbados. Admiral Insurance are now more relaxed about my lay-up cover so I will retain them as my insurers for the hurricane season.

In Barbados, we linked up as planned with Angie & David Jeffs from HR40 Hurah. We had met them many times before in our circumnavigation and had crewed for them in Bequia regatta. They were now entered in the Barbados regatta and I crewed in a very hotly contested race in the cruising class. Angie was a brilliant helm and we won the race by just 4 minutes and they were 3rd overall in their class for the week!

Now we are having a few days scuba diving before returning to the UK to resume life without the World ARC
