Éowyn
is presently out of the water in Port Vila
Boatyard, Vanuatu in position 17:45.336S 168:21.693E
The overnight passage from
Tanna was pretty uneventful and we arrived in Port Vila at 0800. After a visit
to Customs and the ATM to get some cash we prepared for our haulout. Port Vila
is a total contrast to Tanna, a tourist trap for Australians and not very
special at all!
The haulout is carried
out in an old fashioned way where a trailer is pushed into the water and the
yacht floated in, guided by 3 snorkellers who do the chocking underwater. Simple
process? - well it took over 2 hours!
The yacht is then dragged from
the water by a tractor and further supports added.
On Saturday, Mike & I
antifouled the high wear parts of the hull and changed the anodes and propeller
stops. The keel damage from the Fiji reef was examined and all appears to be OK.
The boatyard workers polished the hull and we expect to return to the water at
dawn on Monday.
On Tuesday we plan to go
abseiling down a waterfall
