Life Goes On

Éowyn is anchored at Great Bird
Island, Antigua.
A week on and here we are in Great
Bird Island.
After Shirley Heights we carried on
the social whirl, but first on Monday I bought a Digicel data SIM to try in the
ipad and it does give us much more internet access. I can set up the ipad as a
hotspot so Chris can keep up with Facebook from the aft cabin. We can't use too
much data but there is plenty for email, Facebook, weather forecasts and most
importantly the Archers podcast.
We spent a couple of days at the
Green Island anchorages of Nonsuch Bay where we met OCC members Ann & Pete
Thomson, having some family time with son Alex. Green Island anchorage was very
busy and as well as many yachts, there are now endless kitesurfers to contend
with!
On Thursday we returned to Falmouth
and with John & Chris Lytle dined at the excellent Rum Baba Italian
restaurant for my birthday. Unfortunately things were slightly marred with a
boat problem. I had observed an unwanted 5 amp discharge and Chris & I
stayed up till 2 am trying (and failing) to trace it. In the morning I borrowed
John's proximity ammeter but the mystery remained. A quick decision to miss the
rugby and head off to Jolly Harbour for the services of electrical man George
Bridger. He turned up as arranged (unusual for the Caribbean) at 1 pm and an
hour later the problem was diagnosed. It took some time to make sure it did
not return by creating a greater buffer between the bow thruster and
the goods stored in the same locker. This did give us a chance to eat at
Mellinis, one of our favourites. I have been going there for 15 years and every
time I have the same dish, Swiss liver! boring!
The next day we left the work dock
and motored round to Deep Bay as we needed to charge the batteries and make
water. Today we are braving the reefs of the North East of Antigua and have
dropped the hook at Great Bird Island, a beautiful and remote place with gin
clear azure blue water
It's a bit like the Tobago Cays but
without the crowds. We have no idea where we will be tomorrow but I suspect it
will not be too far from here
