More Cape Town
Eowyn

Éowyn is still in the marina
of the Royal Cape Yacht Club, Cape Town, South Africa in position 33:55.244S 018:26.515E
We had arranged a rig check
through Admiral Insurance and the riggers duly arrived on Wednesday. There were
several issues of which we were aware, but were shocked to learn that 3 diagonal
stays had some stranding. This would mean the mast down to renew the faulty
wires. The problem was the wind as the crane could not work in the katabatic
which had blown for 3 days. Eventually on Friday, the mast was removed and Eowyn
lifted for Action Yachting to undertake some other repairs and maintenance. The
hull, anodes, prop stops etc were in great condition and once the lower rudder
bearing had been greased, that too was back to A1 order. We also booked a hull
polish as Eowyn has looked a bit tired for some time!
On Saturday, Jack Richardson,
Rui's crew from Richards Bay kindly took us on a tour of the winelands. However,
Jack's car developed a brake fault so it was thought safest to cut this a little
short - not before we had bought some bottles and visited
Stellenbosch.
Today, Sunday, we took a taxi
tour to table Mountain and when the cable car was found to be closed because of
the wind, we visited Simon's Town, Hout Bay and the Cape of Good
Hope.
Tomorrow, Action Yachting
begin the work on the heads, Duogen and hull and I hope that the riggers may
also start their work too.
