If our welcome in Mauritius
had been generous and gracious, then our departure was even more
so.
When we were told there
would be a multi faith blessing of the yachts, I expected one priest to pass
some general words of comfort without mention of a specific religion. Instead we
had representatives of the Catholic, Hindu, Anglican, Jewish, Muslim and
Buddhist faiths, each giving a prayer but mainly with a message of harmony and
reconciliation. Even for someone like myself who is somewhat scornful of
organised religion, it was a moving moment and in this way Mauritius was an
inspiration to the world at large.
 Our short racing leg to La
Reunion starts at 1130 this morning, the 23rd October. The weather forecast is
good and it look as though 18 yachts will make the
start. |
