Caribbean Cruising Again - Bequia
Eowyn
Thu 21 Apr 2011 21:52
Éowyn is now at
anchor in the North of Admiralty bay, Bequia in position 13:00.583N 061:14.707W
On Tuesday 19th, we checked
out from Rodney Bay and spent a night on a mooring at the peaceful Hummingbird
anchorage near Soufriere, St Lucia. it was an 0500 start on Wednesday to get to
Bequia in time to clear Customs.
Bequia is one of our favourite
destinations but we had another motive. Alan Reynolds, an excellent marine
electrics man is here at the moment and he quickly sorted out 2 problems that
have been with us for a while. Firstly the immersion heater was replaced and at
the same time, the troublesome leak from the hot water tank was sealed. We can
now leave the water system
Alan also attacked the Duogen
to replace the shaft bearing. After bruised knuckles and some swearing he
eventually succeeded! We have been without this for some months so it's return
is most welcome.
Chris & I have
painstakingly emptied & cleaned each & every locker, throwing the
junk which has accumulated over the last 16 months and removing hiding places
for the mini ants which trouble us.
Tomorrow the Bequia Easter
regatta begins. We are particularly looking forward to see the locally built
double enders racing as well as the J24's and the cruisers. More work for Alan
though as he tries to sort out our NMEA connections and our dodgy
VHF.
Hopefully there will be some
time for a few dives with Laury & Ron before heading South on
Monday.
