Éowyn is lying at anchor
is Isla Contador, Las Perlas, Panama in position 8:37.332N
79:02.106W
We have been here two nights
as it was a great opportunity to use the local wifi to contact friends and
family. we have also provisioned for our sail to Galapagos and managed to
ship 12 gallons of diesel, although we had to carry it Yesterday, we met up with
the Budd family at Canas, Isla Del Rey. We across the Island by hand. Contador
is one of the least interesting Islands as it is devoted to tourism with hotels
and rental properties. However it meant that last night we had a bizarre meal in
a German restaurant .Eating bratwurst and sauerkraut in a small Island if Panama
is quite unusual!
On Wednesday we met up
with "Bristol Rose" in Canos, Ile de Rey. We have had a problem with our
VHF and SS reception so we ended up in anchorages a mile apart. However, we
visited the lovely village together and bought some fruits (10 oranges for 1$)
Supper was our freshly caught Spanish Mackerel (John's first fish!) On Friday,
John had a brainwave about the SSB problem which turned out to be interference
from our new fancy solar panel regulator.
We had previously visited Isla
San Jose where we picked some lovely fruit in a "farm" run by an ancient German
lady. At the same Island, John went on a nature walk and had an unwanted
encounter with a wild boar!!!
Isla San Jose Scenes
Probably the most interesting
anchorage was Rio Cacique on Ile de Rey where we saw an amazing sight of
hundreds of Cormorants herding fish towards the shoreline before pouncing en
masse!! Real David Attenborough stuff!
We have an appalling forecast
to the Galapagos, winds very light and in the wrong direction but we are up with
the lark tomorrow to get back to what we came to do - sailing
