Under Way at Last!

Éowyn is 150 miles West
of St Lucia in position 13:46.930N 63:35.862W
All the planning has come to
fruition and we are under way at last.
 We made a cautious start but
were still 3rd or 4th over the line. However with no upwind sails set for the
short leg to Castries, we were soon overtaken by most of the fleet. At the
turning mark, we set up the twistle rig and slowly picked our way through
several other yachts. We are the smallest in the fleet and handicapped as the
second slowest so we expect to be towards the rear of the pack. We will continue
to use the twistle for 2 days before considering the asymmetric. This means we
are a little slow in the light winds but can make a direct course when others
must reach back and forth, covering a greater distance.
 Carole had pre-prepared a
sausage casserole for the first night and Chris & Val made us sandwiches, so
we have not had to cook much so far.
