On Saturday afternoon we had managed to make contact with Taxi Driver, Tour Operator and general Mr Fixit Jesse James who seems to be able to take care of most cruisers travel needs here in Chaguaramas. We would be met the next morning by Matthew his driver who would take us to the Asa Wright nature centre and the Caroni swamps for 2 sessions of bird watching

Bird Watching at Asa Wright

We were treated to a delightful to a delightful home style lunch at the Centre. Unfortunately the heavy rain prevented us from seeing the Scarlet Ibis at the Caroni Swamps but here is a photo of this magnificent and unique bird.

That night, Chris and John Lyttle returned from their mercy mission of delivering a yacht from Martinique, whose owner had been badly injured in an attack in Martinique. These incidents make us all think long and hard about ways of improving our security aboard in these Islands. dining with John and Chris, the story which unfolded was horrific!!

The excellent Crews Inn put on a gratis Christmas dinner for their resident cruisers and on Monday night this turned out to be a magnificent affair complete with turkey, rum cake and both a steel band and a Latin combo playing "Parang" style. We shared a table with the Lyttles and a Canadian family, Heather, Gord, Elizabeth and Tommy from yacht "Tembo"

Whilst all of the above was occurring, I am pleased to report that Thomas of Echo Marine has been steadily working on the watermaker installation confident of finishing on Wednesday (tomorrow)

Meanwhile we are carefully looking at the tropical wave activity which is still around and threatens our return to Grenada.

Crews Inn has some unusual features for a marina - large swimming pool, ice machine and daily newspaper delivered to your door for example. We seem to be eating out most nights, firstly following invitations from various cruising friends new and old and secondly as many Chaguaramas organisations and businesses seem to be having lively Christmas parties about now.

I am writing this on Saturday 11th December and the weather seems reasonable to head to Grenada tomorrow. Dave, Vicki and Peter left today in "Papillon" to continue their round-the-world voyage.
