Éowyn is in the marina of the Hout Bay Yacht Club, Cape Town, South Africa in position 34:03.019S 018:20.859E

Bob Glassman arrived on Eowyn on Boxing Day, with Graham following on 2nd January and Mike on the 3rd.

Unfortunately some of the work carried out whilst we were away was not correct, so a couple of days were lost whilst the riggers completed their work. Eventually we set sail - or rather motor - for Hout Bay on Thursday 6th January with Thor VI nearby.

There were several WARC yachts at Hout bay and we were met with tales of winds of 70 knots + in the marina. Chessie had to be rescued by the lifeboat when her rudder broke in storm winds and Brown Eyed Girl could not make headway and was also towed in. Kallliope lost her genoa, destroyed in the storm in the marina and many other yachts suffered damage. Hout Bay is renowned for just such problems but we entered in very light winds.

On Thursday night there was a reception at the Yacht Club with great local food, but we had to leave early to continue the work needed to make the start line on Saturday. we have 19 yachts left but it looks like only 12 will make the start as others rush to finish repairs and get their Brazilian visas.

Friday is Customs and Immigration clearance (ridiculously complicated here!) and we are finishing the last jobs to make a good start. One major decision remains, whether to start with the Twistle hoisted.
