This is the last diary posting of the cruising
season. We are now on our way South to lay-up Eowyn in Grenada until
Saturday the 1st May saw us clear out of
Bequia and sail to the South side of the Island at Friendship Bay. This is a
lovely spot, if a little rolly, but on a Saturday night with a live band etc.
the restaurant was completely empty (not even us!) Next morning we had some
drama as our Duogen snagged a submerged lobster pot at full tilt. Chris leapt
into the dinghy as I dumped the sails and the offending item was duly removed
I really like Mayreau as the village has still
retained genuine Caribbean charm despite a dependence on tourism rather than
fishing. Chris wanted to try Salt Whistle Bay in the North and against my better
judgement we anchored there to watch the Moorings bareboat charterers practice
their somewhat rusty anchoring techniques. we were lucky but another cruiser was
solidly hit amidships by a giant catamaran with screaming skipper and puzzled
crew. Next time back to Saline Bay please Chris!!!
From Mayreau we fuelled in Petit Martinique -
"smugglers island" and the cheapest fuel hereabouts. I telephoned "Shark Attack"
to arrange a barbeque on the beach at Chatham Bay, Union Island but when we
arrived we found a new beach bar and a depressed Sharkie whose monopoly now
seems well and truly over!
A great sail to Grenada where we cleared customs
at the lagoon St Georges and then anchored in True Blue Bay in the south. Our
penultimate sailing day saw us at anchor in Clarkes Court Bay where we went
ashore for a meal at "Little Dipper" - a true Caribbean gem of a restaurant with
just 4 tables and a perfect view over Hog Island.
Finally on Thursday we sailed to St Davids to
begin several days of very hard work laying up Eowyn for the summer. We were
hauled on Monday pretty much on schedule, although the promised lay-up cradle
was not ready.
Chris and Eowyn are
We stay 3 nights in La Sagesse nature resort and
visit Eowyn to work in the day.
We return in mid July for a family holiday and
more yacht work. The diary will resume in November when Eowyn is launched ready
for next season. Hopefully in the meantime, the Windwards will be hurricane
