The 'Wanganui journey' an 88km section of the Wanganui River is classified as one of NZ's Great Walks (although obviously not a walk) There are various options to enjoy the river and we decide to take a jet boat up to "The Bridge To Nowhere" stay the night at "The Lodge" and then canoe the 22kms over the most exciting rapids back to Pipiriki. . . .an absolutely brilliant decision! St Josephs Church on the drive from Wanganui town to Pipiriki Preparing for our jet boat trip. Jet boats are designed to negotiate very shallow water. Luxury at the Lodge! (especially after 5 nights sleeping in the tent and the van) View up the river from the balcony Carving of the paddle steamer which transported 12000 people a year up the river in its heyday.
