Mile Zero is the start of a 1243 mile journey to Key West, Florida, via the Intracoastal Waterway, avoiding cape Hatteras. For once I'm pleased that Mawari is only 40ft, draws only 6.5ft, and is only 63ft from top o' mast to waterline. Several of the fixed bridges are 65ft above the water and the Wilkerson Bridge is only about 64ft ('about', being rather crucial).
We set off full of enthusiasm and reach our lst bridge, just as it is closing. The next opening is on 'The bottom of the hour' another 57 minutes to wait then.. .
The next Bridge opening and the loch are co-ordinated so we arrive at mile 11.9 just before dark and tie up to some trees for the night.
