Hi all,

For family and friends who have enjoyed reading about our travels on Tioram the blog continues……. it is being updated at our other blog at www.tioramblog.com

When Tony and I sailed from Swanwick marina on 31st May 2009, I had no intention of writing a blog.  Our mailasail blog was an excellent form of letting everyone know that we and our friends on board were safely sailing to the med and especially when sailing across the Atlantic.   The intention was really to log our position on the Atlantic voyage and for all of our loved ones to know that everyone on board was ok.

Once we arrived in St Lucia and in the Caribbean, comms were very limited to wifi bars on far away beaches and so the blog became away of family knowing all was well.

Family and friends asked if we were going to continue the blog as they were enjoying seeing the photos and reading about the journeys, the places, people and characters along the way.

Soon our blog became a diary linked to our log books and the many thousands of photos we took.  Prior to our 'sailaway', I had planned and bought numerous sketchbooks to make drawings and visual records of our journey. After years of working in Art and Design this seemed an idyllic way of personally recording our journey for a few years.
What I strangely found is that the ability to take amazing photos....only because it was all in front of me..... became my focus and joy.

But then the added bonus was the pleasure to write and recall stories. sailing is always a mixture of life at sea and landfall.  Yachts can take you on an off-grid journey if you choose.....and so landfall can happen in less trodden places.

These places have history, culture, people, character, daily life…… as well as filling the senses by….
'FEELING', the warm breeze on your face,
'SEEING' the colours of the landscape,
‘HEARING', the sound of a dolphin as it takes its breath,
'SMELLING', the scent of herbs toasted in the heat of the sun spilling off the land and
'TALKING' about the things we have seen and experienced....... and then sharing and writing this blog.

11 years after the first blog, it is hard even for us to comprehend how fortunate we feel to have lived this life and that the journey still continues.

For the past 3 years, I have written the blog for various reasons on paper but didn't publish, now I am updating it and on our other website with the photos which go alongside the blogs.  Hopefully soon I will be back up to 'present' day.

I hope you enjoy the past stories......... and the ones to come.

See us at www.tioramblog.com

Love to all
