Hello from Tioram

Life has been good on the high seas over the last 24 hours. We sailed north in a decreasing breeze yesterday afternoon but with calm seas and sunshine it gave us a chance to dry out and do some domestic chores. Those followers of the blog with an atlas will be no doubt confused by our inability to turn right to the Azores. This is because the Azores high is well north at the moment and as there is no wind in the middle of it we have to work our way over the top. This is made more complcated by two small highs being situated over Bermuda which effectively blocks the way. The forecast this morning indicates that except for 12 hours of head winds tomorrow we should be able to break into westerly winds by tomorrow night. The wind finally gave out about 4:00pm yesterday afternoon so we motor sailed to 6:00 in the morning when the wind filled in from the west. Now we have the cruising chute up in 10 knots and are heading NE. The right way for once. A day more and we shouldhave these winds the rest of the way.

We passed a Norwegian boat, Tallwind,  last night and had a good chat with them. They are  headed for the Azores also. Then at 8:00 am this morning the radio sprang to life with an impromptu chat wih several UK boats all around us. Most were stopping at Bermuda which is about 120 miles north for fuel. Tioram has big tanks so no need for us to do that.

In the calm conditions last night skip allowed the crew a first beer which went down well and off watch James watched The Bourne Identity on the TV in the media suite. The on watch at the time are working on reprisals!

Needless to say there is not much to report from the crew. Tina cooked frankfurter ala pasta last night when we forgot to take the meat out of the freezer early enough to defrost. Food supplies are lasting well which is good as James is definately making up for 110 days of compo rations. John's sunburnt knees have been allowed to see the sun again and Malte has at last found the shower.

The Ula award is a tough one today as very little has been going on. A secret meeting of the committee decided that the award should be for cleanliness and is jointly awrded to James for cleaning the cooker and Malte for personal hygiene.

Cheers from Tioram.
