We finally found some lee in the strong 22 knot gusts and anchored off a
tiny beach after 31 N miles. The anchor held well in the sandy bottom and we
settled for the remainder of the day watching other yachts and large motor
yachts running for shelter.
In Greece the wind seems to always increase when the sun goes down,
followed shortly afterwards by a stillness before a calm night or it kicks in
again. The wind came back but had reduced substantially. The following
morning the still water was like looking into a clear, turquoise aquarium--- so
different.
We lifted anchor at 10.30 to head for the capital of Kefalonia,
Argostoli. It is a great spectacle to enter the large natural
anchorage and huge bay of Argostoli and Lixouri.
We moored to the waterfront quay at 13.00 hrs in very shallow water 0.4
under the keel and enjoyed the baking heat.
Edmund came to moor alongside us and we enjoyed a lovely afternoon and
evening with him. It is so nice to meet up with sailing friends in
different countries and locations.
Edmund gets our vote and admiration as he sails his lovely boat
single-handed.
On the morning of 15th July we motored out of the grand bay, Tioram heading
north along the east coast of Kefalonia and Edmund on ‘Minka ’heading north on
the west coast of Kefalonia, heading for Corfu.
