On 14th sept, a hot and very humid morning we slipped our lines from Portisco marina to motor to Cala di Volpe bay wher we anchored for the eve and night. Cala di Volpe or bay of the 'fox' is a spectacularly turquoise bay, lined with super yachts as if only a dinghy park in high season.
In September they have all but a few moved on to other chic destinations.

The beautiful bay and the Hotel Cala di Volpe were made famous by the filming of the James Bond film, The Spy who loved me (1977), staring Roger Moore and Barbara Bach.

The hotel, stunning of its time was designed in the style of the Costa Smeralda, all gentle curves, organic forms with white washed plastered walls. This combined with natural local materials of stone and hard woods contrasting with coloured glass and linen fabrics......all wrapped together with a style of driftwood washed by time and an organic seashore theme.
In 1977 it was solely the location for the 'rich and famous'. Today, it is still beautiful and a more accessible resort. In fact, the next morning 15th, we took the dinghy to the shore, walked through the grounds and enjoyed a coffee in the lounge area.
Adjacent to us in the foyer were designer shops tucked away, through unpretentious white washed doorways... as if passing into a small organic caves.  Small curved windows of tiny displays were again unpretentiously placed.
I decide to have a look at some jewellery in one tiny jewel- like window. Inside were vintage earrings, necklaces and more strikingly a beautiful tiara in its original 1920s box and papers.  I wondered who had worn it, what was its history and how had it found its way to be for sale to the next very wealthy buyer.  The diamond stones were various sizes and elegantly set. As I leaned closer to the window I noticed a smartly dressed 'armed guard' who had been standing in the area, he came up to me and very politely asked if I would like the hotel to open the 'shop' for me to look at it.  I politely said that I loved it but couldn't possibly afford it, but he happily let me take a photo.

The hotel 'Cala di Volpe' , now a 'five star legend' is well worth a visit.....even just for a coffee.

Later on the 15th we lifted anchor and sailed and motored along the coast heading north, finally taking a buoy in the bay of Cannigione.

We spent two lovely days saying goodbye to old and new friends and with the town of Cannigione our temporary 'home 'before sailing out of the bay on the 18th to begin our journey west again.
