Anyone that sails knows that watching the weather forecast is essential--- even in sunny Greece.
Tony could see that a force 6/7 was coming in from the south and in Greece the islands sometimes cause acceleration of the wind strengths so we decided to head for north facing Vathy on Meganisi.

We moored stern to the quay and to the predicted wind direction and as forecast on the 13th the clouds came in----what are these fluffy things we thought ???---- the wind increased and thunder and lightening passed by east and west of us.

We actually only registered 24 t knots at around 23.00hrs and the wind didn’t appear to increase overnight. The low lying island of Meganisi seemed to have a little micro climate where the wind speed is not accelerated by mountains. Either side of us in nearby Nidri, Levkas, where there are dramatic mountains the yatchties painted a different story and on Kioni on Ithaka others told of 30 t knots and big swells pushing into the easterly facing harbour.

For us the rain came torrentially on the 13th and 14th and we felt as if summer had ended. The very chilly day on 14th seemed like 15c with people  in light jumpers and coats--- the actual temperature 20c a drop of 10c plus--- did seem very chilly.  The air had a very strong pungent earthy scent mixed with pine--- almost cleansing.

On the evening at around midnight a group of teenagers played around on the nearby children's playground--- enjoying the cool first rain of the season.

On the 16th we woke up to sunshine and very loud Greek music being played in an adjacent taverna. The village seemed to be celebrating the fresh air again--- along with the sunshine returning.
People started to come out of their yachts again. A German couple next to us had been like moles for 3 days holed up  in their little 29 footer.

An air of summer returned to Vathy---- and a sense of relief for us that it wasn’t all over !!

Ambulance boat----- the only connection with the hospital on the neighbouring island of Levkas
‘Dude’ boat on a trailer next to the ambulance boat-------- not the subtle name of ‘Foreplay’.
Little German boat neighbour --- and the sun comes out again.
