On 27th July we lifted anchor to head north to Porto Vecchio. In 16-22 true knots we sailed with 2 reefs in the main and a part furled genoa with 26 knot gusts..........there is certainly no shortage of wind here this summer.
The Golfo di Porto Vecchio is a long deep natural gulf and harbour.....very pretty.
We decided to head into the marina to get some fuel and to stay a couple of nights to explore ashore.
The port has an interesting waterfront and marina but the real gem is the old town situated high above the port on the hilltop. We had debated walking but thank fully caught the noddy train, not realising just how far and steep the climb was.

What we found bowled us over. The citadel walls surround the beautiful old town, much like Bonifacio but larger with a central small square. The old town would be less pretty by day as much of the architecture is in real need of repair and decoration but by night with the street lights and light spilling out from the shops, bars and restaurants it was beautiful.

The joy of hot Mediterranean countries is of courses the pleasure of all doors and windows being open. Old buildings have magnificent tall windows to walk through, with open shutters etc. The bridge between inside and out is blurred and the atmosphere of life inside/outside is just great.
And so.....Porto Vecchio is truly French in character and atmosphere. Shabby chic buildings, alley ways, tourist shops, chic bars and restaurants for all pockets......and great french food mmmmh.

Interestingly all the tourists seemed to be French, very little German heard and no English.
We took some photos of the old town, the walled fortifications and a few from the balcony window of the simple restaurant where we ate looking down onto the atmosphere of the street below.....timeless and fab.

The old town, citadel and atmosphere.

Love to all
