We lifted
anchor from Ikaria on 19th July and sailed past the Fourni Islands to Samos. The
predicted forecast of force 6 kicked in with some acceleration around the east
tip of Ikaria. We made good speed 9 knots over the ground in 25 knots with a 3rd
reef and reefed genoa.
Samos is a
much greener island than the Cyclades and the architecture immediately changes
from the white sugar cubed houses to terracotta- tiled roofs . As we sailed
along the south coast of Samos, Tioram got her first glance of Turkey.
After 41 n
miles we went into the new Samos marina to use the power and water to prepare
the boat in readiness for our close friends Carol, Pat and family Alex and
Imogen to arrive.
On 21st we
moved to Pythagorion town quay to wait for their arrival.
Pythagorion is named after the philosopher Pythagoras who was born there in 580
BC.
The town is
a tourist resort with a bustling quay, taverna's, bars and shops. It was fab to
see Carol and family arrive---- Carol, my dear mate whom I’ve know since we were
only five.
One of the
greatest pleasures for Tony and I is to share Tioram with our family and
friends--- and the moment they arrived on the quay had been a long term wish
fulfilled.
We enjoyed
Pythagorion together chilling, girlie shopping and had a couple of nice meals
out sitting on the beach at the shoreside taverna's.
On 23rd
July we sailed to Poseidonion bay where we anchored for 2 nights and enjoyed
swimming off the boat, a BBQ on board and an dinghy ride ashore to a beach side
taverna.
Today,
25th, we lifted anchor to head south to the small Dodecanese island of
Agathonisi.
