The town of Nidri is now a popular tourist resort with a commercialised strip of shops and tavernas and extremely busy in high season.  We have seen a photograph taken in 1900 which shows the Mount Elati mountains diving steeply to the flat marshlands, the coastline below, not even a village and the large natural harbour of Vlycho.
Historically, Vlycho was the anchorage of the Venetians during their occupation and later during the Turkish occupation it was a hide out for pirates. Today its a peaceful picturesque anchorage.

The view from the mountains down to the sea is stunning----see photos.  The ‘Inland sea’ is an area formed between the islands of Levkas, Meganisi, the Onassis Island of Skorpios and the Greek mainland to the north and east.  It is a lovely protected sailing area with many places to visit.

We took a scooter to explore the island and found a lovely monastery—see photos
