Hello from Tioram

More of the same over the last 24 hours with light winds first from the west so we sailed with the cruising chute up an then as expcected from the NE when we turned on the motor. This was as expectd in the forecasts. We are now  heading NE, motoring, looking for the new wind which all the forecasts tell us should be here soon. Then hopefully we start sailing again.
The night was clear and dry but there is definaitely a chill in the air now compared to the Caribbean and waterproof bottoms are required to stop the damp when seated. Its much cooler down below where sleeping at night is easier. Forecast for the next few days looks promising as we turn for the Azores.

The night watches were pretty uneventful with good star watching and amusement from Bermuda radio contacting boats that were arriving in their waters overnight. They sound just like Portland coastguard  with a very British accent. I think we are agreed that had we known we would have to come this far north we could have scheduled a stop for a few days. Topics of conversation on the night watch were varied with Tina describing some of the great days they had in the Caribbean and John explaining to Tina the nuclear processes that take place in the sun. We don't need sleeping pills on this boat: 15 minutes with John is enough.

The day was spent washing clothes and cleaning,  the skipper looking decidly glum at the state of his water tanks. John served up his spag bol ala boat but bemoaned the boat's wine cellar as we had forgotten to provision up with red wine in Antigua to add that bit of flavour (and enable him to have a crafty sip to make sure it was suitable). The skipper is practicing his sun sights and John had a whipping and splicing masterclass yesterday afternoon for the younger sailors.

The Ula award continues to hard fought with many acts of unsurpassed thoughtfulness amongst the crew. Cups of tea at watch change are noted and washing up when its not your turn scores highly as did Malte's banana milkshake to use up the bananas going a little too ripe. However  I think the skippers chearful demeanour in the face of unsurpassed water use probably swayed the day.

As you can see not a lot is happening on the good ship Tioram at the moment.

Happy birthday to Moira from the crew.

Cheers from Tioram
