In the early morning on 22nd September Jackie and John packed their travel
bags and sadly left Tioram to catch a taxi to Palma airport.
We have travelled with them from Simi in Greece through the islands of Kos,
Patmos, Paros, Serifos and Poros, then through the Corinthian canal, onto
Galaxidhi in the Gulf of Corinth and through the Straits of Rion and the Gulf of
Patras, Greece.
Then to the Greek Ionian island of Zakinthos before heading south west to
the coast of and ‘toe’ of Italy, past Mount Etna on Sicily on through the
Messina Straits, along the north coast of Sicily to Palermo.
Then north west to Sardinia and further west to Mallorca in the Balearics,
Spain
We sailed and motored together for a total of 1,365 logged miles and for 24
days. It was a real treat to have Jackie and John on board, they are
skilled sailors and have sailed the Atlantic on their own yacht.
I have now sailed the Atlantic twice with John, once on the Challenge yacht
-- ARC when we met, and the second time on Tioram on our return Atlantic
crossing from Antigua to the Azores with Tony.
So we have been a good team, the four of us sailing Tioram west
again. We have seen some lovely places en route, introduced Jackie and
John to some of the islands we visited going east together with exploring new
places through the Messina straits, the north of Sicily and east coast of
Mallorca.
It is always great to sail long distances with other sailors as we all
settle quickly into the watch systems at night, sail the boat and navigate
together, anchoring and mooring is made so-o-o easy and of course eating,
drinking and chilling on board and ashore makes the trip a nice holiday for
all.
We enjoyed sailing with Jackie and John very much---- and especially their
good company.
And so they left by taxi in Palma and Tioram was strangely quiet
again---------------------
love to all
