Hi all,

At 07.00hrs on 4th August 2015, we slipped our lines from the buoy at Porto Pozzo, Sardinia to sail north along the west coast of Corsica. An early start meant we missed the stronger NW winds, getting a great westerly sail past Illes Bruzzi before needing to motor.

We passed the stunning long beaches of Roccapina with sailing super yachts at anchor. The amazing beaches of Plage D’Erbaju appeared to be only accessible by yacht with its paradise beach, this seemed the ideal location for celebrities to escape the masses.

We continued to our planned anchorage at Murtoli and anchored off the beach. We rowed the dinghy to the shore in calm conditions to swim and snorkel in the amazing clear turquoise water, surprisingly warm on an open coast.

The wind suddenly kicked in and we decide to get paddling ‘Hawaii five O style’ back to the boat.

The wind strengthened and we could see that it was going to be quite difficult to get back as we made very slow headway.

The next moment a very kind guy from a french flagged yacht came to us with his dinghy and outboard engine. He took our ‘painter’ line and towed us back to Tioram…..phew…..lesson learned take the outboard even in the lightest breeze if you are distracted by snorkelling and the on shore breeze increases.

As soon as it came the wind died and we had a gorgeous calm night at anchor. Surprisingly on the exposed west coast of Corsica the anchorages are more protected than we expected.
