Sami, Island of Kefalonia. 10th-16th Sept 2013. Touring the island by motorbike.
Hi all, For us the words Sami town, Kefalonia and motorbikes/scooters go together like good ‘cheese and wine’. Sami has a harbour wall which if we are lucky to find a space, means we can tie to the quay, beam to, without an anchor out and can leave Tioram unattended…. without fear of being ripped out whilst ashore. So…. Just like two kids let out to play, we snatch the opportunity to hire a motorbike from Sami moto ( see Andreas the mechanic blog -30th June ) and head off into the beautiful interior of this island. On 11th Sept we enjoyed a 150km ride, touring the islands coast roads, Argostoli the capital and headed north along the glorious east coast road which looks down onto the Ithaka channel……finally ending up at Rosie’s café ( see Rosies café- blog 2nd August ) . On 12th Sept we covered another 120km around the island, exploring any new roads and once again climbing up the 3000m high Mt Ainos to see the spectacular views….. and at this time of year above the September clouds. We love Kefalonia. It is hard to imagine that this is nearly mid-September, 30 degrees plus, hot sun and people swimming in the warm sea. We pinch ourselves feeling very lucky to do this after years of rainy British days. The scent of toasted herbs has sadly gone from the hillsides, replaced by the warm scent of pine. Kefalonia's hills and mountains are still incredibly green after months of heat and no rain….whilst the farm land fields are scorched to ochre. The hillsides are covered with evergreen trees, pine, cypress and olive and the vineyards in the valleys. Let the photos do the talking………….. Valleys, coast roads, mountains, Mt Ainos above the clouds, Rosie’s café again, turquoise sea and white pebbled beaches…………… There are so many lovely photos we have needed to upload them in batches…. See them all in ‘ more motorbiking in Kefalonia’ Love to all T and T x x x |
